We were delighted to play host to the fifth regional heat of a brand new national hairdressing competition earlier this month.

The Midlands heat of Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year 2020, which took place on Monday 10th February, saw eight talented young stylists book their places in the Grand Final of the competition.

Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year, taking place for the first time this year, is a celebration of the UK’s very best hairdressing and barbering students.

The competition is sponsored by L’OreĢal, Cloud Nine, Wahl, SalonsDirect, Bettertons and the Fellowship for British Hairdressing, and is supported by education partner VTCT.

Emily Hilton, Concept Hair Event Manager, said: “We had an absolutely amazing time at Stephenson College for the first ever Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year Midlands heat. It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved. Congratulations to all of our winners from the day – there were some amazing looks on show and we can’t wait to see them all again at the Grand Final.”

Award-winning hairdresser and salon owner Let Lew, who helped judge the Midlands heat, said: “The judging inspired me and reminded me of how I started. The competitors were full of fresh ideas and determination. I believe I was looking at some of the future stars of our industry.”

Jane Harwood-Scott, Section Head, Professional Care Industries, at Stephenson College, said: “We were delighted to host this prestigious event at our College enabling staff and students to witness this exciting event and support our learners who had entered the competition. The standards were exceptional and we are proud of our students, Lynette and Alice, who were runners up in their category.”
