Stephenson College honour their former Chair of Governors, Gordon Tacey
On Wednesday 20 March, a moving tribute was held for our former Chair of Governors, Gordon Tacey, with a renaming ceremony of our bistro to ‘Gordon’s’. Gordon, who sadly passed away in December 2018, served the college for over ten years, first as a governor from 2006-2009 and then as Chair of Governors from 2009 – 2018.
As an appreciation for all the work and support Gordon provided to the college over the last twelve years, we decided to rename the Bistro to Gordon’s with a new sign and a special commemorative plaque. Gordon’s wife, Claire, unveiled the plaque in front of numerous students and staff who all remembered Gordon and his contribution to college life. Two of Gordon’s children, Mathew and Rachel, also joined the proceedings, led by Principal of the college, Dr Nigel Leigh OBE.
Dr Leigh commented, ‘We recognise the great contribution not only to college life, but the local area as a whole, that Gordon provided over the years. He will always be remembered for the dedication and support he gave to our college. I am personally grateful for the guidance and challenges he offered in order to push the boundaries to make Stephenson College the innovative further education provider it is today. He will be greatly missed.’
Guest of honour Claire Tacey stated, ‘I, and all the family, are very honoured that Gordon’s work has been recognised today and we thank the college for their kind words and tributes.’
