Guide to programme content: You will spend the two years of the programme on a block day release basis whilst undertaking structured industrial training with your sponsoring company. This will include: Assignments designed to provoke a full understanding of the industry, whilst in training and at the college; Developing subject areas ranging from first principles for simple builds to a detailed understanding of complex, high-technology builds across 8 modules; Studying both building and civil engineering construction applications. The programme aims to: Prepare you for a range of technical, professional and management careers in construction; Provide specialised studies that are directly relevant to individual vocations and professions that you are currently working in or wish to work in; Enable you to make an immediate contribution in employment through work-related assessments which require the ability to solve a range of problems associated with the construction, environmental conditions and utilisation of buildings; Cultivate a variety of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life; Develop transferable and marketable skills, flexibility and motivation; Provide a basis for progression to graduate and postgraduate studies. Assessment: Key characteristics of assessment are validity, reliability and fitness for purpose; Traditional and innovative methods, including case studies, assignments, and time-constrained assessments and work-based projects. Continuous assessment: academic written assignments, examinations, projects and presentations.
The BTEC Diploma in Construction introduces learners to the subject knowledge required for a range of technical and professional occupations within construction. You will be employed in a construction discipline and the skills acquired during your studies should enable you to achieve success and progression into a technical or professional position in the construction industry. You are likely to be employed in a job covering one or more of the following: architectural design, estimating, planning, buying, surveying, property, housing, site engineer, site technician, site supervisor, valuation, building control, land surveying, town planning. The employer you work for may be a construction company, private practice or local authority or government department.

This framework provides the vocational knowledge and skills necessary to those pursuing a career in a variety of disciplines including architecture, surveying, planning, maintenance, construction management or civil engineering.
The Level 1 certificate in Multitrade Construction Activities qualification has been developed for delivery in a training environment; this means that you do not need to be employed to study this qualification. It has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work as a Construction Operative in the construction industry or progress to further training.
This level 1 Certificate will give you a solid foundation in Multi-trade Construction Activities and prepare you to take further qualifications to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding within Multi-trade Construction Activities. You should undertake this qualification if you have some previous experience (e.g Work placement, working with family, summer job etc.).
