Dr Nigel Leigh is one of the 1,109 individuals who have been recognised for their achievements across a wide range of sectors in what is a landmark centenary year for the Order of the British Empire.
The college principal, who has been in post since 2007, will receive an OBE in recognition of his services to Further Education and Apprenticeships.
Chair of Governors at Stephenson College, Gordon Tacey congratulated Dr. Leigh for his accolade in the following statement: “We are proud to congratulate Nigel on his well-deserved award.
“The award of the OBE marks Nigel’s contribution to the Further Education Sector, particularly in respect of his involvement in the development of apprenticeships.
“Under his leadership Stephenson College goes from strength to strength, delivering award winning apprenticeships and raising students’ aspirations.”
Speaking of his award, Dr Leigh said: “I am very pleased to receive an OBE and recognise that this honour reflects the contributions of many members of our Stephenson Community to improving the life chances of those we serve.”
