Stephenson College are delighted to have been Highly Commended by Leicestershire Police in the category of Dedicated Neighbourhood Team of the Year at the force’s annual awards ceremony earlier this month.
Beauty Therapy tutor Jane Harwood-Scott was nominated alongside Leicestershire’s Youth Offending IMPACT team for their fantastic work with a group of 13 Year 11 girls from the local area who were classed as vulnerable or at risk of offending.
The group received their commendation for delivering a specifically tailored beauty therapy course in their spare time to meet the needs of the group of young girls.
The group spent 12 weeks on the programme, held during the evenings at our Coalville campus, which saw an incredibly impressive overall attendance of 85%. At the end of their time studying eleven of the girls obtained distinctions and two with merits, much to the pride of all involved.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Lord Bach, Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner spoke of the importance of community projects such as the one Stephenson College were involved in: “The service initiatives such as these provide are absolutely vital, I’m absolutely honoured to be a part of recognising them.
“It’s important that we secure public trust, confidence and support and the groups we’re honouring today are a shining example to others across the country on how it benefits to go the extra mile for others.”
Principal and Chief Executive of Stephenson College Dr. Nigel Leigh OBE said of the commendation: “I would like to thank Jane Harwood-Scott for leading within this project on behalf of our college and to endorse the positive comments received during the ceremony to celebrate these awards“
