Earlier this month Stephenson College hosted the National Qualifiers for the IMI Skills Auto Competition to find the United Kingdom’s best Heavy Vehicle Engineer.

The competition, which ran from the 5th until the 7th July was run by the Institute of the Motor Industry and aims to find the top new talent within the industry in Automotive Body Repair, Vehicle Refinishing, Automotive Technology and Heavy Vehicle Engineering.

Competitors were nominated by their employer, college or training provider to take an online knowledge test. The top 30 high scorers were invited to compete at Stephenson College’s VOLVO Academy to demonstrate their practical skills and abilities.

The top competitors from across the national qualifiers then progress to the live final held at the Skills Show at the NEC, the largest skills and careers show in the UK. They will be tested on their practical and theoretical knowledge over 2 days to find the IMI Skill Auto Bronze, Silver and Gold medallists.

Winners from across the week included Stephenson College and Ryder apprentice Kieran Leyland, although the official list of finalists competing in the national competition will not be released until  September 1st
