BPEC Gas Foundation

Course Overview

The BPEC Gas Foundation provides a route for a career in the gas industry for candidates who do not hold qualifications necessary (but have industry experience) to qualify to undertake assessments under the Accredited Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives (ACS). A period of on-the-job training is required to enable progression to ACS assessments.

What Qualifications Or Experience Do I Need?

Although there are no formal entry requirements candidates will be expected to attend an informal interview and successfully complete an aptitude test.

How Long Is The Course?

Two evenings a week for 33 weeks over twelve months.

What Will I Learn?

Gas Pipework and Fittings, Gas Safety Legislation, Characteristics of Combustion & Natural Gas, Standing & Operating Pressures, Gas Rates, Positioning of Emergency Control Valves & Emergency Procedures, Tightness Testing & Purging, Checking/Setting Meter Regulators, Ventilation Requirements, Flues, Carbon Monoxide in Dwellings & Combustion Performance of Gas Fired Appliances, Gas Safety Devices & Controls, Unsafe Situations/Use of Emergency Notices & Warning Labels, Re-Establishing Gas Supplies & Re-Lighting Appliances, Appliances (Central Heating Boilers, Cookers, Fires, Water Heaters).

How Will I Be Assessed?

Various written and practical assessments. On-site portfolio completion. Learners will be assessed on their portfolio, practical tasks, assignments, verbal and multiple choice questions.

Where Could This Course Lead To?

This qualification allows candidates to undertake the Core Gas Safety and Appliances assessments that are required for Gas Safe registration.
